# What customers see

> The Sign in with WhatsApp steps from your customer's side: number, code, consent and “Continue as”.

When a customer taps **Continue with WhatsApp** on your website or app, they go to a StoreTalk sign-in
page showing your business name. It's built for phones and takes a few seconds.

## First time

**1. Enter their WhatsApp number**

The country code is filled in for your country (or the whole number, if your website already knows
it). They check it and tap **Send code on WhatsApp**.
A quick, usually invisible security check runs in the background.

**2. Get the code on WhatsApp**

A 6-digit code arrives **from your business's WhatsApp number**. They tap **Copy code** in WhatsApp and
paste it on the sign-in page. The code works for **5 minutes**.

**3. Enter the code**

The page signs them in as soon as 6 digits are entered. If they need a new code, **Resend code**
unlocks after 30 seconds, and **Change number** lets them fix a typo.

**4. Agree to share**

The first time they sign in to a particular website or app, they see what it will get —
**their WhatsApp number** and **their name** (if you have it) — and tap **Allow** or **Cancel**.
There's also an optional, **unticked** box: *“Also OK to get offers and updates from \[your business] on WhatsApp.”*

**5. Back to your website**

They return to your website or app, signed in.

## Next time

On the same phone or browser, the page shows **Continue as +91 98•••• 3210**. One tap and they're back —
no code, no consent screen. This lasts for the *Stay signed in* period you set (30 days by default),
extended each time they use it. They can always choose **Use a different number**.

If your website asks for a fresh sign-in (for example before a sensitive action), customers are asked for
a new code even if they're already signed in.

## If something goes wrong

| What the customer sees | Why |
| - | - |
| *That code isn't right or has expired.* | Wrong code, or older than 5 minutes. They can resend. |
| *Too many code requests. Please wait a while and try again.* | Too many codes for this number or connection — see [limits](https://help.storetalk.app/sign-in-with-whatsapp/security-and-limits.md#limits). |
| *Too many wrong codes for this number today.* | The number is paused until the next day after repeated wrong codes. |
| *Sign-in isn't available for numbers from this country.* | The number's country isn't in your allowed countries. |
| *Sign-in is being set up for this business.* | Your code template isn't approved by Meta yet. |
| *We couldn't send a code right now.* | WhatsApp refused the message (for example your WhatsApp connection needs attention). |
| *This website isn't registered for Sign in with WhatsApp.* | The website's client ID or redirect address doesn't match what's in Settings. |

If the customer taps **Cancel** on the consent screen, they return to your website without being signed in.

## Privacy

* Your website only gets what the customer agreed to: a sign-in ID, their WhatsApp number, and their name
if you have it on file.
* The sign-in page is run by StoreTalk; your website never sees the code.
* Customers are added to your **Contacts**. They are not subscribed to marketing unless they ticked the box.
