A segment is a saved group of contacts. When you send a campaign, you pick a segment as the audience. There are two types: Static and Dynamic.

Static vs Dynamic segments

Static segment

You hand-pick the contacts. The list stays fixed until you change it manually.Best for: one-off promotions, a specific Diwali offer list, or personally curated VIP groups.

Dynamic segment

StoreTalk automatically includes every contact that matches your rules. The list updates itself as new contacts are added.Best for: ongoing campaigns like “all opted-in Wholesale customers”.

Create a Static segment

1

Go to Segments

Click Segments in the left menu.
2

Start a new segment

Click New Segment and choose the Static type.
3

Name it

Give your segment a clear name, for example “Diwali VIP List”.
4

Add contacts

Search for and add individual contacts to the list.
5

Save

Click Save. You can add or remove contacts any time.

Create a Dynamic segment

1

Start a new segment

Click New Segment and choose the Dynamic type.
2

Add your rules

Set the conditions contacts must meet — for example: Tag equals “Wholesale”.
3

Narrow it down

Add more rules to refine the audience — for example: Opted in = Yes.
4

Save

Click Save. StoreTalk recalculates the list every time you use the segment.
Dynamic segments are ideal for ongoing campaigns. Create one called “Active customers” and it will always include your newest contacts automatically — no manual updates needed.
