First time
1
Enter their WhatsApp number
The country code is filled in for your country (or the whole number, if your website already knows
it). They check it and tap Send code on WhatsApp.
A quick, usually invisible security check runs in the background.
2
Get the code on WhatsApp
A 6-digit code arrives from your business’s WhatsApp number. They tap Copy code in WhatsApp and
paste it on the sign-in page. The code works for 5 minutes.
3
Enter the code
The page signs them in as soon as 6 digits are entered. If they need a new code, Resend code
unlocks after 30 seconds, and Change number lets them fix a typo.
4
Agree to share
The first time they sign in to a particular website or app, they see what it will get —
their WhatsApp number and their name (if you have it) — and tap Allow or Cancel.
There’s also an optional, unticked box: “Also OK to get offers and updates from [your business] on WhatsApp.”
5
Back to your website
They return to your website or app, signed in.
Next time
On the same phone or browser, the page shows Continue as +91 98•••• 3210. One tap and they’re back — no code, no consent screen. This lasts for the Stay signed in period you set (30 days by default), extended each time they use it. They can always choose Use a different number. If your website asks for a fresh sign-in (for example before a sensitive action), customers are asked for a new code even if they’re already signed in.If something goes wrong
If the customer taps Cancel on the consent screen, they return to your website without being signed in.
Privacy
- Your website only gets what the customer agreed to: a sign-in ID, their WhatsApp number, and their name if you have it on file.
- The sign-in page is run by StoreTalk; your website never sees the code.
- Customers are added to your Contacts. They are not subscribed to marketing unless they ticked the box.
